  • A trade name must be registered with the Superintendent of Corporations in the DLCP Corporations Division, whether the owner is a registered entity or a sole proprietorship. Official source
  • In the District the local licence is the Basic Business License itself: the activity the business performs determines which BBL category it needs, and a BBL is required for each location in DC. Official source
  • The District’s general sales and use tax rate is 6%. The planned increase to 7% has been postponed, and OTR says the 6% rate stays in place through September 30, 2027. Special rates apply to some items, such as 10% on restaurant meals. DC Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR)
